Ant Gin & Turkey Eggs
Checked out the Ballymaloe Literary Festival of Food and Wine this weekend. A flying visit but enough to catch a very informative walk and talk with Alys Fowler and David Tannis, to drink red wine in the sunshine, to see the deadly set up in The Big Shed at nighttime and in the small hours of an after party, sample Ant Gin crafted by Ben Reade and taste Turkey eggs compliments of Ivan Whelan!
It was a long weekend of billions of workshops, lectures, demonstrations, panel discussions, breakfast, lunch, dinners and dancing with some of the top food people in the world. Loads to learn even if you’re not in the game. Only one complaint of the weekend in that the vegetarian options in the Big Shed were abysmal, which was a pity from such a forward thinking food collective, but this was otherwise an absolutely brilliant event. Educational and inspiring, already looking forward to signing up to every workshop and lecture next year.
*Important things learned – DON’T mow the lawn for at least another month. AND stay away from picking flowers too – just instagram them, it’s 2013 for fucks sake – but seriously people, the pollinators are fucked so please do your bit in solidarity. #savethebees
